Honestly, I don’t need to describe what masturbation is as most of us here know what it means. Large proportions of youths have indulged in it before so it’s a common activity. It’s simply put as ‘touching yourself’. That’s just the shallow as meaning because we all touch our bodies one way or the other every day; when having our baths, combing, creaming our skin and so on.

The act of self-satisfaction is addictive and the addiction is not easy to curb just like other addictions we have. The worst aspect of it is the guilt you have once you shoot your white. You feel bad and dirty and you keep thinking of the contrast feeling of how you really wanted to do it at the beginning and how bad you feel at the end. It plays the guilt game on your mind. Even sometimes you promise yourself or swear that you won’t do it again but the promises and swears only last some hours or day before you forget them.

Medically, masturbation is a common treatment for sexual dysfunction. E.g. women who do not reach orgasm can learn how to by masturbating and men who experience premature ejaculation can use masturbation to learn control relaxes your muscles. It is not physically harmful but when done in the extreme can cause damage both to the body and mind. 

Religiously, it does not express the proper use of procreative power given to man to fulfill eternal purposes. The conscience who is the king of all judges brings up the sense of guilt after wanking and this basically tells us it’s bad. Sense of guilt doesn’t come when you do good things


The addiction is a problem of the mind so you tackle your mind first. Determination is the most important and first step to take.

Delete your reasons for the behavior and eliminate the conditions or situations that may trigger the desire for the act. You should have it in mind that the act is a sin you don’t want to indulge in again and let your mind stay at that. Realize that the act only amounts to a short-lived pleasure.

As I know, most people who masturbate watch pornographic videos and photos which create a lustful mind picture in them. Therefore one should not view any pornographic material on TV, movies etc. that can bring up the urge.

Create a reminder in form of calendar on which you tick any day you don’t indulge. Whenever you have the urge, look at the calendar to remind you how far you have gone and to discourage you from spoiling the whole abstinence you have been through. Get yourself a gift if you can go clean for 3months
Try not to always be alone or idle as the thought might crop on idle times. Go out and make sure you make friends often than before. But don’t hang around friends that indulge in the act too, their words and presence might discourage your abstinence.

Associate something very distasteful with your loss of self-control it will help you stop the
act. For example, if you are tempted to masturbate think of having to bathe in a tub of worms, and eat several of them as you do the act. It helps you develop an unpleasant thought whenever the urge comes up.

Set goal of abstinence. Beginning with a day, then a week, a month, a year and finally commit to never doing it again

Never touch the intimates part of your body unnecessarily and don’t stay too long in the bathroom and toilet
